Mastectomy Fittings
Things to Note From a Certified Mastectomy Fitter (CMF):
The 6–8 Week Rule: You should wait until 6 to 8 weeks after surgery before getting fitted for a permanent silicone prosthesis. This allows swelling to subside and incisions to heal completely.
Post-Radiation: If you are undergoing radiation, your skin may be extra sensitive. You may need to wait longer or use a lightweight fabric form until the skin settles.
What to wear to the fitting?
Wear a fitted, light-coloured t-shirt. This helps your fitter see the silhouette and ensures your form looks natural under your clothes.
